Donald Faison tells PEOPLE he wants the world to know his 'Scrubs' costar, Zach Braff, is single

Faison shares he's ready for his friend to find love

Both Braff and Faison are featured in PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive issue

Scrubs costars and longtime besties Zach Braff, 50, and Donald Faison, 51, know nearly everything about one another.

But there’s one thing that Faison really wants the world to know about his pal.

“This is a single man who is very, very handsome,” Faison tells PEOPLE at the shoot for his and Braff’s feature in this year's Sexiest Man Alive issue. To which Braff quickly interjects, “How is this relevant to our interview at all?”

Faison, sure feels that it is. Ignoring his friend he continues, “Someone out there is going to see this [issue] and be like, ‘What a handsome young man this is!’ " At that, Braff can’t help but chuckle: “You’re like an old Jewish grandmother right now!”

All jokes aside, in the interview, Braff, who previously dated actress Florence Pugh, reflects on what he finds most sexy in a potential partner these days.

“I mean obviously there’s the initial ‘Am I attracted to this person?’ But then I’m so aware that for me now it’s being funny and laughing with the person. To me that’s the sexiest thing. Beyond the initial ‘Oh you’re cute,' is ‘Do we laugh?’ "

When Faison broke the news to his wife CaCee Cobb, 47, and his youngest kids son Rocco, 11, and daughter Wilder, 9, that he was being featured in the issue, he got mixed reactions.

“My kids were like ‘What? For what?’ And then this morning my wife was like ‘There’s the Sexiest Man Alive,’ and I knew she didn’t mean it. I’m going to be honest, when this came up I kind of laughed at it. I don’t consider myself sexy.”

Braff strongly disagrees. “I think you’re very sexy,” he tells his pal. Says Faison, “I appreciate that. And if PEOPLE thinks it, I’ll take it.”

Another title Braff has is godfather to Faison’s kids, though if you ask their dad, he still has some work to do in that role.

“I don’t see them much, they’re very busy,” admits Braff. But his friend tells a different, funnier story. “Let’s keep it 100," Faison says. "He’s not the biggest kid person on the planet."

“That’s not true, I like kids!” Braff retorts. Faison shoots back, “When they’re quiet.”

He can’t argue with that: “Well, they don’t need to be making all that ruckus,” Braff says before breaking into laughter. “No, I like kids.”

He adds of Faison’s little ones, “They’re beautiful, wonderful children. They’re both very sweet and charismatic, and both really excelling at the things they’re interested in. She’s into dance, he’s into basketball. And Donald is a very good dad. So much so that I’m like ‘You’re at that frigging basketball game, again?’ It’s like every weekend.”

Aside from dad duties, Faison’s also a doting husband, much like his Scrubs character. “Turk is completely in love with his wife and I am that. Turk is dominated by his wife. I am that as well,” he says. “I’m the type of guy who doesn’t like getting into arguments with his wife because I know I’ll have to apologize after. Should have never thought about arguing in the first place!”

The two are bringing their beloved characters back to life in a long-awaited reboot of Scrubs, coming to ABC in February.

"You're following your favorite doctors, your heroes to some people," says Faison of what fans will see in the show's big return after 15 years. "I think whatever is going on in their life is interesting to quite a few people. And people want to find out."
