Don't expect Sydney Sweeney to offer her political takes anytime soon — or ever.

The Euphoria actress and frequent pop culture lightning rod reiterated in a new interview that she doesn't intend to discuss her personal politics, whether now or in the future.

"I'm not a political person," Sweeney told Cosmopolitan for a cover story published Thursday. "I'm in the arts. I'm not here to speak on politics."

She added, "That's not an area I've ever even imagined getting into. It's not why I became who I am. I became an actor because I like to tell stories, but I don't believe in hate in any form. I believe we should all love each other and have respect and understanding for one another."

Despite an increasingly divisive political climate, the star of such films and TV series as The Housemaid and The White Lotus doesn't think her stance will change. "I've never been here to talk about politics," Sweeney told the mag. "I've always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of. And I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn. But it's somebody else assigning something to me, and I can't control that."

Sweeney, 28, is no stranger to controversy. Last year she took part in an advertising campaign for American Eagle that used the slogan "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans," which critics accused of promoting eugenics and white supremacy. Others took issue with the campaign's overtly sexualized imagery.

While Sweeney stayed mum in the immediate aftermath, she told PEOPLE in December that she had been "honestly surprised by the reaction."

"I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand," Sweeney, who is reportedly a registered Republican, said at the time. "I don't support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren't true."

It was important to her, she said, that she "leads with kindness."

Speaking to Cosmo, Sweeney commented again on people projecting her feelings without actually knowing her opinions."It's definitely not a comfortable thing to have people saying what you believe or think, especially when that doesn't align with you," she said. "It's been a weird thing having to navigate and digest, because it’s not me. None of it is me. And I'm having to watch it happen. I'm online and I see things, but I'm slowly pulling myself away. It's definitely gone to a level where it's just not healthy for me to digest it all."
