Almost six decades ago, the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers faced off in the first AFL-NFL World Championship Game, later known as Super Bowl I.

At that time, some people referred to it as a "supergame" between the two rival leagues.

The AFL was an important challenger to the NFL's control of professional football, starting in 1960. By the end of the 1960s, both leagues decided to merge, which took effect in the 1970 season. This led to the creation of the NFC and AFC, and each year, the champions from these conferences face off in the Super Bowl.

Many of today’s oldest NFL franchises began in the AFL, including the Chiefs, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders. All these teams have reached the Super Bowl, and over half have won the big game.

As the current season wraps up, Super Bowl 60 will feature a matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, a rematch of Super Bowl 49. Even though this season has been unpredictable, both franchises have Super Bowl experience.

Here's the list of every Super Bowl winner since that Chiefs-Packers game on Jan. 15, 1967:
