Rosie O’Donnell Says She Still Watches Her Elisabeth Hasselbeck Fight on ‘The View’

Some people wouldn’t want to revisit a falling-out with a friend, but it seems Rosie O’Donnell doesn’t mind rewatching her infamous 2007 blow-up with Elisabeth Hasselbeck on The View.
When People asked O’Donnell to name her most and least favorite co-host from her time on the ABC talk show, she replied, “Listen, it’s known that me and Elisabeth Hasselbeck did not have a great ending to our friendship, so I would say that was the most problematic, perhaps. But we did get along right up until the end, and then it blew up on national TV.”
And she revealed she “sometimes” watches her and Hasselbeck’s shouting match: “If the Elisabeth Hasselbeck fight is on, I’m like, ‘Let me try to remember what this felt like.’ You know?”
In case you missed it, O’Donnell and Hasselbeck argued over the Iraq War after the former accused the latter of believing O’Donnell thought American soldiers were terrorists. Two days later, O’Donnell took an early leave from the talk show.
The comedian also discussed that dramatic moment in an Australian radio interview last year, saying on Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel that she “bent over backwards” to befriend Hasselbeck. “And here she was coming at me on national TV about whether or not I was patriotic,” she said. “It felt to me like I was on a basketball team of five women, and one of them kept tripping me on my way to the hoop.”

In response, Hasselbeck said on Instagram that O’Donnell “time and time again wants to spread lies and hate.”

Hasselbeck recently returned to The View as a guest host, and O’Donnell told People she’s open to doing the same but isn’t keep to be a full-time co-host again.
“Next season is the 30th anniversary, and Ana Navarro mentioned that when I did her podcast recently,” the stand-up comic said. “I think that I would [return] and just be a guest. I do think that for me, it’s not the best use of my time or talent to be arguing about politics with people, just in general, as a form of entertainment. It’s not where I shine the most. But I am a very patriotic American. I love this country.”
