Former Today weekend anchor Peter Alexander has revealed his next career move on the air.
Days after announcing that he would depart the NBC News program, MS NOW — the news channel formerly known as MSNBC — announced that Alexander, 49, would anchor the channel's 11 a.m. hour, be its chief national reporter, and serve on a team of breaking news reporters.
"For more than two decades, Peter has built a reputation for his professionalism, intrepid reporting, and sharp questioning of presidents of both parties," MS NOW president Rebecca Kutler wrote in an internal staff memo obtained by Entertainment Weekly. "He is one of the most respected and loved journalists in the Washington press corps, and we are honored to have him join our newsroom."

Outside of highlighting his achievements — which include the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Political Journalism — the memo adds that, "Peter is also the rare journalist who can straddle lifestyle, politics, and breaking news with ease," and that he "brought compassion and humanity to the weekends" as one of the anchors of Today's Saturday edition.
Alexander also addressed the news on his personal Instagram account, where he wrote, "I’m thrilled to join the outstanding team at MS NOW, including many of the award-winning reporters and anchors I’ve worked with over the last two decades. My fierce commitment to the facts remains unchanged. I’ll see you weekdays at 11 a.m., beginning soon."
A date for his takeover of the hour has yet to be announced. EW has reached out to representatives for MS NOW parent company Versant for comment.

Before joining MS NOW, Alexander was NBC News' chief White House correspondent since 2021, years after he began covering the White House for NBC News in 2012. He joined Today's weekend edition in 2018.
Alexander announced his exit from NBC News over the weekend, telling viewers on the March 28 broadcast, "This morning, I am bursting with pride and with gratitude," he said. "I've had the most incredible experience over 22 years with NBC News."
He explained that the decision was made as both a personal challenge and as a means to spend more time with his family, who are based in Washington, D.C. His role at NBC News required shuttling between the U.S. capital and New York City.
"I've been away from home more than 80 nights in the last seven months," Alexander said. "More than 200 Friday nights away from my family in the last seven years."
He added, “So, in this limited window before my daughters lose interest in hanging out with me... I’m eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives."
Alexander shares two daughters, ages 12 and 10, with his wife, Alison Starling.
