Meghan Markle Nods to Princess Diana’s Off-Duty ‘90s Style With an Unexpected Hair Accessory

Meghan Markle shared a photo of herself at a garden center this weekend.

In the photo, she wore a thick black velvet headband.

The accessory emulated the off-duty ‘90s fashion of Princess Diana and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.

This year, ‘90s minimalism took the world (or at least the internet) by storm, thanks in no small part to Ryan Murphy’s Love Story about Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. And it seems as though Meghan Markle isn’t quite ready to give up on the trend just yet. In her latest photo on her Instagram Stories, the As Ever founder was pictured on a weekend outing at a plant nursery, wearing an outfit that served up off-duty ‘90s icon right down to the unexpected hair accessory.

Meghan wore a navy turtleneck sweater, French tucked into her cigarette style mid wash cropped jeans. She finished off the look with a pair of brown loafers and slim black oval shades. To top it all off, she popped a thick black headband on her low-rise ponytail.

Not only would CBK most definitely approve of this latest look, Meghan’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, would also undoubtedly recognize the outfit formula—including the headband. Although she is less well-known for her hair accessories, Diana occasionally wore thick headbands with her minimalist off-duty looks in the ‘90s. See, for instance, the above look from a 1997 trip on the Concorde, when she wore a simple beige suit, a black lace tank top, stud earrings, and, yes, a very thick headband in her short blonde hair.

This isn’t the first time that Meghan has apparently emulated these ‘90s icons. Back in March, Meghan shared a video to her Instagram Stories that once again saw her rocking a thick black velvet headband along with a simple black ribbed sweater.
