Amid the competition, a crew member passed Markle a phone and told her that someone was on the call. Then it showed her husband, Harry, on a video call. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s phone call conversation on MasterChef Australia received criticism online. An X user wrote, “Oh, stop that was cringe. It was a very, very obvious scheduled phone call and it made them look desperate and foolish plus it also showed what a terrible actress she actually is.”

It all started when the “Suits” alum appeared as a special guest judge in the weekend episode of the show. One of the moments that grabbed attention occurred just before the duchess tasted the contestants’ dishes.

While filming was underway, a crew member approached Markle with a phone. He told her that they had a “phone call to the studio.” When she took the device, she exclaimed, “Hi love!” Prince Harry was on the other side of the video call, leaving the other judges and the contestants in surprise.

Furthermore, after greeting the Duke of Sussex, she looked at the people standing on the balcony above and said, “My husband’s here!” Everyone said “hi,” and Harry greeted them in return, too. Then, he asked, “Have I interrupted something?” In response, Markle explained about the show and her role for the day. Once she finished, Harry seemed to be distracted by the set decor. He said, “The chandeliers in the background, that’s very nice.”

Meanwhile, the phone call didn’t sit well with fans. One of the online users tweeted, “So cringey and embarrassing. Acting was soooooo bad.” Many criticized the Sussexes for their interaction. However, a few Instagram users lauded the couple in the comment section of the MasterChef post. A few praised Markle’s “amazing” presence, while some called the duo the “best royal couple.”
