Kate Middleton is known for her gorgeous brunette hair—so much so that even Queen Elizabeth commented on it.

The Princess of Wales employs four hairstyles as part of her “core rotation,” according to a hairstylist.

“Each look has established itself as a classic which she can wear again and again, depending on the occasion,” Tina Farey told The Daily Mail.

Kate Middleton’s brunette hair is stunning—the masses have long thought so, right down to Queen Elizabeth. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry remarked that his grandmother “often commented on Kate’s beautiful mane,” and, according to a hairstylist, the Princess of Wales employs four hairstyles the most often. All of them, thankfully, are relatively easy to recreate.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, hairstylist Tina Farey said that the future queen relies on four “timeless and practical hairdos” to match her “understated elegance”: the half up, half down, the practical ponytail, mermaid waves, and the classic updo.

“Recently, the Princess of Wales has had four hairstyles at the core of her styling regime,” Farey told the outlet. “Each look has established itself as a classic which she can wear again and again, depending on the occasion.”

The first hairstyle, the half up, half down, has become “one of her favorite ways” to style her hair, The Daily Mail reported. Farey called the style “camera ready” and highlights Kate’s “natural beauty,” as it accentuates her high cheekbones and “adds an understated elegance to her looks.”

To add an extra level of elegance, Farey suggested curling or waving sections of one’s hair—though she cautioned that the curls and waves would likely fall out if the weather is rainy or windy.

The practical ponytail, she added, is “ideal for outdoor events where she is networking,” as her hair is away from her face. Kate has also become known for her mermaid waves, a look her daughter Princess Charlotte has adopted, too. Kate also brings out a classic updo for more formal occasions, Farey said.

“Kate often wears her hair in a low bun, which suits her polished and pristine style, giving her light brunette locks ultimate radiance,” she explained.

“With an oval face shape, her sharp jawline and gorgeous high cheekbones are two of her most defining features,” Farey said. “The combination of hairstyles she wears is timeless, easily transitioning into one another and flattering her face shape perfectly.”

She added, “For Princess Kate, establishing a core rotation of hairstyles that she likes will avoid any stress in the preparation for multiple public engagements she attends each week.” As almost all women will understand, with a busy schedule, having a few tried and true hairstyles to turn to is one more way we get it all done seamlessly—and Kate’s “core” hairstyles certainly don’t disappoint.
