Lopez starred in the 1997 biopic based on the iconic late singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, with Olmos playing her father

The two now appear in Netflix's new rom-com, Office Romance, once again playing father and daughter

Nearly three decades after they costarred in the 1997 film Selena, Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos reunited on the red carpet.

Lopez, 56, and Olmos, 78, were pictured at the premiere of Netflix's new rom-com, Office Romance on Tuesday, May 26, at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood.

The film stars Lopez as a driven executive opposite her charismatic employee, played by two-time Ted Lasso Emmy winner Brett Goldstein. Olmos also appears in the film in the role of Jack Cruz, the father of Lopez's Jackie Cruz.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lopez said of their appearance at the premiere: "I’ll tell you what happened. We were standing on the carpet just a few minutes ago. I was standing with him, and I remember taking the cast photo with Selena and I said, ‘Oh my God, do you remember when we did this years ago?’ and he goes ‘I remember it well!' "

She added: "I was like, ‘And here we are.’ He’s like, ‘Here we are.' He’s like, ‘I’m so proud to be here with you.’ I said, ‘I love you so much, thank you.' "

Lopez scored her breakthrough acting role in the 1997 biopic based on Selena Quintanilla-Pérez’s rise to fame before her untimely death at the age of 23. In Selena, Olmos starred as Abraham Quintanilla, the singer’s father.

The Texas-born Tejano music star was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldívar in March 1995. Saldívar was founder and president of the “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” singer’s fan club, as well as her clothing boutiques. In an unusual coincidence, Saldívar was denied parole in March 2025, the same day Lopez announced Olmos would be joining the cast of her latest project.

Lopez shared that Olmos would be joining her in her latest film last year. “From Selena to now, this journey has come full circle…SWIPE to see the big news. We’re thrilled to welcome the incredible Edward James Olmos to Office Romance!” the actress wrote as the caption to an Instagram post in March 2025.
