Actor Paul Rudd remembered the first time his kids saw his movies during a recent podcast appearance.

He said his son, Jack, was upset by Reno 911! Miami.

Daughter Darby's first viewing experience was Clueless.

Paul Rudd is delightful, sure, but being his kid isn't always easy.

"There's one time I had done a Reno 911! movie," Rudd said Wednesday on Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast. "My son, when he was really little turned on the TV, and this Reno 911! movie was on television, and it was right at a moment when Patton Oswalt is — it's ridiculous — he's shooting me with a machine gun. It's bloody. And he saw me getting murdered, and he was a little kid, and it really traumatized him. He didn't like it."

Rudd shares son Jack, who was born in 2006, and daughter Darby, who was born in 2010, with wife Julie Yaeger. The couple married in 2003.

Rudd's performance in the 2007 Reno 911! movie followed his appearances on the Comedy Central series, whose cast included Thomas Lennon, Niecy Nash, Robert Ben Garant, Cedric Yarbrough, Kerri Kinney, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.

The Wet Hot American Summer actor's daughter had her own interesting experience seeing her dad on film for the first time. For starters, he wasn't even there.

"It's funny. I've never showed my kids any of the stuff," Rudd said and then spoke to Darby in the audience. "But it was you. It was one time when you were little, a babysitter showed you."

Shane commented that was a strange situation: "A babysitter showed you Clueless without your dad's permission."

"Yeah," Rudd recalled, "I was a little bummed out, I'll be honest. I was like, 'Wait a minute. Hold on. You can't do that.' She’s never seen anything I had done."

In November 2021, Rudd said he was rewatching his Friends performances, which originally aired between 2002 and 2004, with his daughter. Rudd played Mike, the husband of Lisa Kurdrow's Phoebe, over a 16-episode arc.

"I hadn't really revisited many of those episodes," the then-reigning Sexiest Man Alive old PEOPLE. "But now that she's watching it, it's like, 'Oh, I remember this,' and I tell her some story about it," Rudd said. "I'm far enough away from some things now that I can allow myself to be a little nostalgic about it."

His daughter was more of a fan of Matt LeBlanc's character: "But then she'll just be like, 'Well, you're not Joey.'"

Episodes of Therapuss are available on Spotify (above) and Netflix.
