The first reactions toDisclosure Dayare popping up on social media.
In the new film, writer-director Steven Spielberg returns to the subject that inspired some of his most beloved films, including E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind: the arrival of aliens on Earth. The all-star cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo.
The official logline for the sci-fi thriller asks fans, “If you found out we weren't alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” Disclosure Day, which Spielberg co-wrote with David Koepp and features a score from John Williams, was teased on social media on Wednesday by media industry members who saw it.

The movie is “top tier Spielberg, as exhilarating as Raiders [of the Lost Ark] but with the emotional texture & increased ambition of his post-9/11 work. Right from the opening Spielberg lays down the gauntlet and reminds you that he does this stuff better than anybody in the history of film," IndieWire's Jim Hemphill wrote on X.
Calling Disclosure Day “truly something special,” freelance critic Tessa Smith wrote, “I was hanging onto every word, captivated by the story as it all played out. The score perfectly elevates every single scene. Part mystery, part Twilight Zone, something new entirely. I shed a tear at the end.”

“In a shock to absolutely no one, Steven Spielberg has delivered another towering home run," Collider's Steven Weintraub said.
Weintraub added that he went in “knowing almost nothing, and I strongly recommend you do the same. Stop watching the trailers. The one thing I will say: Emily Blunt is incredible. I know big summer movies aren't usually the kinds of performances that get awards-season attention, but once people see what she does in this…”

Praise for Blunt's performance was common in early online reactions. The Oppenheimer Oscar nominee, 43, gives “an all-time character/performance,” wrote Gizmodo's Germain Lussier, who “loved” the movie. “A dense roller coaster ride blending chase film, love story, & mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder. It's Spielberg's best film in 20 years, filled w/ all the magic that makes his films so special.”
In addition to the “astounding” Blunt, Disclosure Day is “full of mystery and wonder,” opined Drew Taylor of The Wrap. “I can't remember the last time I loved a Spielberg movie as much… thrilling, funny, deeply emotional and impeccably acted.”
“Disclosure Day is the weirdest movie Spielberg's ever made (complimentary),” quipped Slashfilm's Bill Bria on X. “Breathtaking compositions, David Koepp's X-FILES-meets-The Bible script is one big high-wire act, Emily Blunt's most accomplished performance, John Williams' best score in years. Riveting, moving stuff.”
Disclosure Day hits theaters on June 12.
