Ellie Goulding was initiated into pop stardom the hard way. In a recent interview with Nylon the singer recalled a time she had to perform while suffering from food poisoning in her early days.
"Coachella one year, I had food poisoning. I was s---ting my pants, and I still went," Goulding told the outlet. "I had these leather shorts that had a zip up the back and front, and I thought, 'These are the worst thing for my situation right now.'"
"I’d been performing in South America — with Lorde, actually — and I got food poisoning. I remember having dinner with [her], and I had some kind of wrap and it all went wrong."

During an Aug. 5, 2025 appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends, Friday Night Lights alum Taylor Kitsch revealed he once lost control of his bowels after a strong cup of coffee minutes ahead of an audition.
“I was in L.A. living out of my car and I would get all these crazy auditions, like four in a day, and I needed a strong coffee,” he explained. “And I'm having it driving to the audition. I'm sitting in the waiting room just like this, and I s--- myself. No joke. And the bathroom door is right there. And I'm like, 'Oh my God.'”
Though Kitsch didn’t make it to the bathroom, he definitely still made it to the audition.
“I threw my underwear in the garbage can, came back out and waited and did not get the job,” he revealed.

Justin Long

When Kate Bosworth said for better or for worse, she meant it. Justin Long revealed that his wife was very understanding when he woke up one day and had pooped the bed while he was battling some food poisoning.
"I was hooked up to an IV, and she was having to follow me to the bathroom with the thing, so I was having to just — it was like Dumb and Dumber," recalled Long during an episode of the PIE with Kurt Sutter and Katey Sagal podcast. "I was just like really like comically unloading and um, and then at one point that night, I woke up, and there's no other way to say this. I can't dance around it: I had s--- the bed."
"I had s--- the bed, and she was in the bed," he continued. "And I had to just face all of these fears, and by the end, I was like not even thinking about it."
But instead of making him feel even more uncomfortable about the situation, Long said Bosworth was understanding and reassuring.
"I was like, 'I just love this person. I’m so grateful to this person,'" he said. "She was not judging, not making me feel weird or bad, and I just felt so lucky, you know? I was s---ting my brains out, and she was looking at me like lovingly, and I thought, 'This is really romantic.'"

He may have retired from the NFL, but Jason Kelce made it known that he has serious beef with the white pants football players have to wear, mostly because he said it's not uncommon for players to have bathroom mishaps while playing.
During an episode of New Heights which he hosts with his brother Travis, Jason detailed his own oops moment on the field when flatulence went wrong.
"You know, like, when you shart and there's a possibility something came out but you're not certain?" he began, before detailing the time he asked an unnamed teammate to check the back of his pants after a particularly concerning "shart."
"I was like, 'Hey, can you check the back of my pants because I think I might have just s--- myself.' And he checks, and he says 'You're good.'"
But that wasn't true.
"I go out for warm ups, do the whole warm ups, and Lane [Johnson] comes up to me after and he's like, 'Hey, you've got s--- all up on your pants right now,'" he said while laughing. "It was disgusting."

Jelly Roll

When he's not using his voice to move crowds at his sold-out concerts or advocating for others, Jelly Roll is actually a very unserious person.
While on the Jennifer Hudson Show in April, the musician was asked about the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to him onstage.
"I pooped myself one time," he said, no hesitation. "I did. I'm sorry. It was what they call a shart. I didn't know. I was confident it was all air. It was not. I'm so sorry," he joked.
"I watched this crowd go from loving me to just being completely out," he said, acknowledging the audience's audible gasps at the revelation.

Excitement got the better of Rare Beauty founder Selena Gomez when she "soiled" her pants on her way to an Ed Sheeran concert.
Gomez shared the funny story while on U.K.’s KISS FM back in 2019. “Me and my friends, we love going to concerts back home. Ed Sheeran was playing at the Hollywood Bowl and there was so much traffic. I was very uncomfortable, let’s say, down there,” she recalled, gesturing to the area below her waist. “So I will say that it was the first time that I had maybe soiled my pants a bit.”
“I was that excited, but I didn’t want to leave,” she continued. “I kind of just went, ‘All right, I’ll put a little sweater on the bottom of me,’ and I made it through the concert.”
The singer added that the incident happened in the car while she was among friends.
“Just so you know, I’ve never told anyone that,” she revealed, laughing after confirming that the story was indeed true. “I can’t wait to see the headlines on this one.”

Gomez would have been in good company, though, as she's not the only one who's also pooped their pants at an Ed Sheeran concert. It turns out, the U.K. native has also had an oopsie while performing onstage.
"I actually once misjudged a fart on stage, which ended up being a shart," he told Australian radio station Nova FM. "It was, like, midway through a performance and I was really lively, and then halfway through I was like, ‘All right I’m just going to stand for the rest of the performance, and hope it’s over soon and then go home and throw these trousers out!’”

Joe Jonas

Joe Jonas takes his pooping episode as a badge of honor — one that many great artists before him have experienced.
“Let’s just say it was a bad day to choose to wear white clothing. You think it might be a little toot, it might’ve been a little something else, a little something extra. So it was like a mid-wardrobe s--- change during the set," he said while on KIIS FM’s Will & Woody radio show in Australia.
"If you go in the archives, there is a wardrobe change halfway through the show, and it was maybe a little bit like, ‘Oh that was an interesting choice to change clothes that quickly,' " he added. "That’s a story I’ve never told and also that’s just real life.”
He added, “It was a light one, it wasn’t a full, so I was able to tell the tale. The whole time, I thought this is definitely — somebody is going to be able to see this and know what is happening, but it was all in my head."
Embracing the mishap proudly, he wrapped the tale by telling the hosts, "It wasn’t as big of a deal as I thought. But such is life. It has happened to many artists. I feel like I’ve paid my dues, and I feel like I’m a part of some secret club now.”

Raven-Symoné

In Raven-Symoné's defense, her "poop your pants" story wasn't entirely her fault.
"Yes. I pooped my pants because I was on a colon cleanse and this guy was driving me to where, you guys don’t , but it was a car service and he would not pull over to let me use the bathroom,” she revealed during an episode of her podcast Tea Time with Raven and Miranda, which she hosts with her wife.
She continued, “And I felt embarrassed to tell him, ‘I’m about to actually s--- in your car.’ The guy was like, ‘I cannot drop you at the bathroom. I have another client.’”
She finally convinced him to find a garage and right as she "walked to the corner to take a squat," it happened.
"First of all, I wasn’t even mad about the fact that I pooped on myself. I was mad about the fact that I pooped on my Louis Vuitton shoes. I was pissed! I had to throw them away, I didn’t know how to clean them, it was disgusting,” she said.
Offering some sage advice to anyone thinking of getting a colon cleanse, the former Disney star said, "Listen, the only reason I’m giving you this information you guys, is because when you take a colon cleanse, do not get in a car service, just stay in the house until it’s over because you’re not allowed to fart, because if you fart, you s---."

Kumail Nanjiani shared his hilarious poop story while on Conan back in 2016.
"I wasn't sick or anything. I was at work and I didn't even feel like I needed to go to the bathroom, but it was like, one moment there was no poop in my pants and then ..." he trailed off. "It almost felt like someone else s--- my pants."
Prodded further about the clean up process, Nanjiani revealed the incident happened while he was in his character's clothing, so he didn't have to go home to clean up.

Nick Kroll

Years before that, Nick Kroll also visited Conan and painted quite the picture while talking about his accident.
"What happened was I had a couple of morning meetings. A couple of different coffees, different blends and in the last meeting, I had a fruit smoothie," he began.
"I got in my car and was like 'Oh, something inside me is changing,' but I was like, 'I'm an adult. I'm not a little kid...'" Needless to say, the assessment was wrong.
"So I'm driving along and all of a sudden the hairs on my arms start to raise ..." he continued. "But I keep driving. And then I'm like, 'Oh no, this caterpillar wants to turn into a butterfly," he said, clutching his stomach.
Realizing he was only five minutes away from home, the comedian continued on his journey. Still, that was five minutes too long and what happened next is what he described as "a travel-sized pillow worth of brisket," in his pants.

Al Roker

As we've learned, when nature calls, she doesn't care where you are. For Al Roker, it happened at the White House.
"When you have a bypass and your bowel has been reconstructed, you think you're pretty safe and I probably went off and ate something I wasn't supposed to," he said while being interviewed by Nancy Snyderman back in 2013.
"I pooped my pants," he revealed. "Not horribly, but enough that I knew ... So, I was panicking. So I got to the restroom of the press room, threw out the underwear and just went commando."

Justine Lupe

Justine Lupe was handling her business the right way when the unfortunate happened.
"I was on set. I had to take a 10-2, which was going to bathroom, number two," she recalled to Bustle in a TikTok video posted by the outlet.
While in the bathroom, the actress said she was interrupted when production "knocked on my door" and "I instinctively, like reflex, stood, then like wiped and realized that a piece of poop had fallen into my dress."
"I put the dress on without knowing it was in there and I smeared poop all over my back," Lupe added. "While I was shooting a show, and then they had to wash the dress while everybody waited."

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson won our hearts with her heavenly voice, but it's her hilarious candor that has kept her there all these years later. And that frankness was on full display when the "Stronger" singer opened up about a harrowing bathroom incident while speaking to her friend Clint Black on her talk show.
"I got some kind of wrecked up from some kind of food and I literally, we were in an arena — I shouldn't tell this story but like I said, I don't have a filter," she said.
"I had to run backstage to my quick change," she began. "I grabbed this poor trash can and boy, I destroyed it. It was bad. It was bad, Clint. And we might have to edit this out but I'm just saying. It happens! What are you supposed to do?"

The Osbourne family rose to fame by not holding anything back, including some of their more eyebrow-raising stories. And that includes absolutely no compunction about sharing the time Sharon decided to destroy husband Ozzy's drugs in an attempt to keep him sober.
"I found [Ozzy's marijuana]. I came to Mom, showed it to her, and then she’s like, ‘Kelly, do you need to go to the toilet?’ And I said, ‘No, I’m not doing this again for you. I’m not going to s--- in Dad’s drugs,’" said their daughter Kelly on The Osbournes Podcast.
Sharon then pooped in the cannabis-filled Ziploc bag, "zipped it back up again and put it back. When Ozzy found out, "he went nuts and chased us down the hallway," Kelly revealed.
Little brother Jack added, "He went so f---ing nuts and nearly knocked a door off a hinge at this hotel we were in."

Unlike other singers on this list, Lil Nas X decided pooping his pants wasn't worth it and left the stage to go to the bathroom during his show. Instead of leaving fans wondering about an odd lag in the performance, the "Montero" singer took the mic with him and delivered the update in real time.
"I'm backstage, and this is, like, not a part of the show, but I'm taking a mean s---, so please forgive me. But I'm gonna be like a minute or two, and I'll be right back," he told the audience.
Retweeting a video of the incident posted by a fan the next day, the rapper doubled down, writing, "Lmao people really thought i was joking, i was literally back there dropping demons into that toilet."
