Gloria Estefan is a legend today, but more than 30 years ago, she thought she'd win a "granny" before her first Grammy Award, she joked before the 2026 Grammys.
On Sunday, Feb. 2, the Latin pop star, 68, reflected on her decades-long career while celebrating her 2026 Grammys win for Best Tropical Latin Album for Raíces during the PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly live red carpet.
Estefan, who attended the ceremony with her longtime husband, musician and producer Emilio Estefan, 72, shared her excitement over Bad Bunny’s nominations and what they represent for Latin music.

"We would be so thrilled that he would win this incredible award because you know, throughout our career, we stood up for Latin music [and] Spanish-language albums. I performed Mi Tierra on the Grammys and won my first Grammy after being nominated six times. I thought I was going to win a 'granny' not a 'Grammy' so we are beyond thrilled for [Bad Bunny] and we are keeping our fingers crossed."
In 1994, Gloria won her first Grammy award for Mi Tierra in the Best Tropical Latin Album category. category. She has gone on to win four more Grammys and five Latin Grammys.

Gloria told PEOPLE in May 2025 that her most recent album Raíces was largely written by Emilo while she concentrated on her upcoming musical Basura.
"It's a very personal love story. There's a lot of love songs," she said of the album. "In fact, Emilio said to me, 'Oh, I wrote you a love song.' I go, 'Babe, you're going to sing it?' He goes, 'No, you're going to sing it for me.' I go, 'You wrote your own love song? I love that.'"
The Cuban power couple, who have been married for more than 40 years, share two adult children, son, Nayib and daughter, Emily.
